ABOUT THE HIGH ROUTE

In the summer of 2022, Jenny and Kaytlyn were dropped off via boat at the edge of one of the most remote and rugged parts of the country - the North Cascades. Ahead of them were no trails, just over a hundred and twenty miles of thick forest, snow, scree, and glaciers. In just a week's time, the duo traveled north to south through the national park's high country, completing the fastest known traverse of the range. The extended feature-length director's cut of The High Route documents their journey.

JENNY ABEGG

Jenny is a mountain athlete and writer based in Leavenworth, WA. She grew up in the mountains, covering iconic routes in the North Cascades as a child with her parents and sister, and guiding camps in remote ranges of BC after college. An accomplished rock climber with a passion for obscure alpine adventures, she’s spent the bulk of her outdoor career tied to a rope, climbing professionally for a few years. Amidst early COVID restrictions, she started trail running and soon discovered the joy of moving quickly and unencumbered through the mountains. Since then, Jenny has combined her two passions for a number of fun “running/climbing” missions, including Mt. Challenger in the Northern Pickets and the Alpine Lakes Crest Traverse in WA, the Tantalus Traverse in BC, and the Vuelta al Hielo in Southern Patagonia.

KAYTLYN GERBIN

Kaytlyn Gerbin likes to move fast in the mountains. As a professional trail and ultra runner, she’s won and set course records in ultramarathon races and trails around the world. She discovered trail running during graduate school in 2014, but prior to that got her start in the mountains with snowboarding and splitboarding, backpacking, climbing, and mountaineering, taking courses with The Mountaineers in Seattle. Since then, she’s continued to volunteer with the program as an instructor for avalanche safety and glacier travel courses. She loves bringing her endurance to the alpine, covering a mix of technical terrain while traversing glaciers and ridgelines in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. She holds records on routes including the Wonderland Trail, the Rainier Infinity Loop, and the Ptarmigan Traverse, and has been on the podium of iconic trail races including the UTMB, Western States 100, and Transgrancanaria.

ETHAN NEWBERRY

Ethan Newberry is an ultrarunner and filmmaker based in Seattle, WA. In addition to his numerous Hollywood credits in front and behind the camera, he is the creator and operator of the popular YouTube channel, "The Ginger Runner," with 200,000 subscribers and tens of millions of views. It's there that he has built a following of like-minded outdoor adventurers pursuing their athletic goals, challenging themselves both physically and mentally. He has worked with Kaytlyn on a number of video projects over the years, including Summer of Wonder and The Last Mile. He and his wife Kimberly Teshima Newberry are race directors for The Tiger Claw, a challenging and community-focused race in Issaquah, WA.
